Training Me for Godliness {POTF}

But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness. For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come (1 Tim. 4:7-8, CSB).

Tonight, I was blessed with the opportunity of attending the women’s Bible study at my home church. It is always a joyous time to be with the girls: to eat dinner, to fellowship, to learn, and to discuss. Only tonight, was a different kind of night for me. While I typically always eat dinner with the girls, tonight I just had to “run away” and eat quietly in one of the classrooms. I just couldn’t see myself eating with the girls in a way that would truly honor the Lord.

How could I say such a thing? I have some profoundly interesting food restrictions, and they were having pizza as one of their meal options. I just didn’t feel strong enough. So, I hid away – where I forced myself to eat my allergen free (and plant based) food.

I want. . . I need to be trained in godliness like Scripture says.

Godliness needs to be a part of every area of my life. Even in eating when it’s hard and I would rather have that slice of pizza – that just might leave me devastatingly weak and in POTS agony for days.

My dear friend, what is the Lord speaking tenderly to your heart about?

While in food isolation, I just soaked up Ecc. 5:1-2. Which was exactly what I needed – and the Holy Spirit knew it was what I needed. The Scripture talks about quietly coming to the Lord’s house, but there’s more to it.

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God (vv. 2a, NIV).”

My problem at Bible study wasn’t so much my words, rather the temptation to hastily put dishonoring things into my mouth (because of the Lord’s direction). My heart likes to hastily act upon things, and I need to be careful. I don’t want to hastily make decisions – neglecting my godliness training.

Oh friend, how we need to fight for our relationship with Jesus! I don’t know what you are facing, but if we don’t fight for this relationship – other stuff will easily get in the way. My desire for allergen food can easily overshadow my desire for more of our Lord Jesus.

Friend, we need our Lord Jesus. We need Him to help us. We need to remember our need to train for godliness. One of my favorite Psalms uses this description: “He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze (Ps. 18:34, ESV).”

God is faithful and will help us, as we continue to draw nearer to Him through our relationship with His Son Jesus Christ. I invite you to join me and keep drawing near. As you draw near through Bible study and prayer, the Lord will fill you with His Holy Spirit and show you what to do!

In Him,

Worship God with Salt {{Week 4}}

Welcome, friends!

I invite you to get out your study journal and Bible, if you have it nearby. If you haven’t had the privilege of ordering your study journal yet, you can do so here (Please Note: It’s an affiliate link).

The Scriptures – Matthew 5:13 and Leviticus 2:13

Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage (Matthew 5:13; MSG).

You must also put salt on all your grain offerings. Salt stands for your agreement with God that will last forever; do not leave it out of your grain offering. You must add salt to all your offerings (Leviticus 2:13, NCV).

Our job is simple – to tell others about Jesus. We can get caught up in so much doing, but this is where life is found. This is what we need to be about, as Christians who have chosen to follow Jesus.

The most important task we have, as believers, is to tell others about Jesus. Whenever we can, share how God is working in your life.

We can’t allow the lines to get blurred. Others see godliness through us. Every time we offer up the courage to tell someone about Christ, respond gently to another, or choose Jesus’ self control over your ability to hurt another with your words, you are worshiping God and God flavors enter the world. The world will illuminate, because others will get another glimpse of God. And when we do these things, this is offering ourselves to the King of Kings!

The tender mercies of God is the only reason why we can have such an important part in His Kingdom. The mercy of God has not only transferred us from death to life, but that is such a vital part. It is just the beginning, though. God has so much more in store for us, as His people loved by God, as we seek His face. We do this, through reading our Bibles, praying, and spending time in community with other Christ followers.

God has much in store for us, as His people loved by Himself. Reading our Bibles, praying, and spending time in community with other believers, is what gets us into the storehouse.

The mercies of God has also declared we can change the entire world, through the passion of Christ, His Gospel, and His power.

Lord, I love the truth of today’s message. Your mercy is so great, thank You! It is, in the light of Your mercies that I can join Your good work and offer myself – so others might see You and come to know You for themselves. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“Combating the Lies of Satan” – BookLook

Combating the Lies of SatanCombating the Lies of Satan is by Shirley White. White holds a master’s degree, ministry license, and has been a born-again believer (and student of God’s Word) for over thirty years. She continues to use her insight and experiences with God to write this book.

Summary: In her book, White makes the point that Mordecai’s claim to Esther (4:14) is the same one made to us – we were made for such a time as this: to stand against the lies of society. While society may say something is right, we need to pinpoint it back to God and the Bible – to know the truth if something is right or wrong, true or false. Certain lies are spread like wildfire in our culture, and we need to put them out with the Word of God. We need to return to honoring God with our lives, and this is what White seeks to do through Combating the Lies of Satan.

My Review: This book review presented a problem I don’t think I have had before. I just couldn’t get into the book. There wasn’t an exact reason for it. I struggled to maintain a focus with this book. So to be truthful, it would not be fair to give a positive or negative review. I simply didn’t get far enough in reading this book by Shirley. She expresses a great amount of depth about the truth, to help her readers understand, and puts thought behind the ideas she writes concerning, which is great…. but I cannot, for sure, say it is well-worth the resources (time, money, energy, etc) to read. She does share one truth I want to close with, which is the truth that every lie of Satan has one purpose alone – which is to detour us from ‘the life and plans God has for [us].’

Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood – Blogging-For-Book Review

walking with God in the season of motherhood“Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood” is an eleven week Bible study to help moms in their season of life. The writer addresses to moms in each stage, because each mom is in a different season from another. A mom of an infant, toddler, multiple children, teens, and adults are vastly different stages from each other.

I think we can all agree that, being a mom creates a wide range of emotions and tasks. Even to outsides, it can seem like a roller coaster. One driven by love, but a roller coaster none-the-less. It brings the woman of God into various places that they otherwise would not go. So, this study is just for you – someone’s mom, who needs her some Jesus time.

Before I step any further, I should add that I am not a mom. I am not a mom, but know the value of needing something for your particular stage of life. When we have a study geared to help us in our specific season of life, we are being given the tools we need to thrive. This is exactly what God is using Melissa to do in the lives of many moms.

In “Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood”, each weekly session offers five days of study. During those times, it is an in-depth time of studying God’s Word and helping moms to understand His truths for their lives. Not only is it a time of knowing His Word more intimately, the writer shares stories that moms can find comforting in their own times of motherhood that can have its moments of difficulty.

Each week is broken down into sections. They are, as follows:

  1. Understanding Your Purpose
  2. Knowing God’s Word
  3. Entrusting Your Child to the Lord
  4. Ordering Your Home
  5. Reflecting the Heart of God
  6. Encouraging a Thankful Spirit
  7. Fighting Against Anxiety and Worry
  8. Letting Go of Harshness and Anger
  9. Training Hearts Through Discipline
  10. Guiding in Godliness by Example
  11. Recovering from Perfect Mom Syndrome (PMS)

Psalm 139:10- Commit to Memory

I posted a small portion of this on my Facebook page, and thought I would share and elaborate some more on it here.

I flipped open my Bible: “Psalm 139 sounds good”. Little did I know, I have “circled” certain Scriptures in this Bible, that sits in a specific room in my house. It’s almost like I have never seen this particular verse before, but… I have. Tonight, I have been feeling like I do not truly make a difference. Easy to feel that way though, right? We all get there. I know, we are closer to Christ’s coming. We have all the signs showing us this. Now is the time to hide God’s Word in our hearts, while we still can! That is the best thing we could be doing with our free time. Committing His Word to memory!

Tonight’s verse.
It applies to me in my circumstances, it applies to you in yours, it applies to every single one of us. This is one of those verses that we *should* be committing to memory. Something special happens, when we hide God’s Word in our hearts. With the way our country is going (we hear it all on the news), we should make more of a diligent effort to commit to memorize as much of God’s Word while we still can! This is a Scripture that holds great meaning for us!

Even there your hand shall lead me, and
your right hand shall hold me. (Psalm 139:10)

As scary as it is to know where our world is going, we need to be prepared, vigilant, and as ready as possible. As we ready ourselves just as a bride does for her wedding day, let us immerse ourselves in His Word and Presence! Let us pour His love on others, as we learn how to live day-to-day. Not entirely sure what that will look like, but it will be different depending upon our circumstances. God is good! He will show us! Let us be about God’s purposes and the calling He has given us for our lives. Be immersed in the Word.

What is really encouraging is Psalm 46:10. It adds onto Psalm 139:10.

Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by
every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. Psalm 46:10

Despite the fact that there is a roaring lion (the devil) seeking someone to devour, I know who wins. There is this huge spiritual battle many of us forget about, but it is ongoing right now (see Ephesians 6:10-18). But, we know who wins. God wins. God gets the victory! We remain vigilant and trusting Him, because we know what happens. God has already given us the answers. He has given us everything for life and godliness. Keep immersing in His Word!
