COME As You Are, Friend!

Friends,

Welcome to Gracefully Overcoming! This blog started out, mainly just as an outlet to the things I was going through in my life. However, it has turned into much more. This has become a beautiful place to seek the Lord with friends – near and far. While this blog begun out of chronic illness, it is wholly about seeking the Lord Jesus with whatever we have to offer.

. . . Even our messes is absolutely acceptable offering to our great God!

Just Come, Friend!

“Jesus said, “Come follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” So Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him (Matthew 4:19-20, NCV).”

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18, NASB).”

“The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit–O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject (Psalm 51:17, NET).”

In the Scriptures, we are reminded that we can just come. We don’t have to wait until our lives are picture perfect and oh-so-neat to meet (or even better experience) our gracious God. He is yearning to be with us, and allow us to see this new and abundant life He has created for us. While sin has messed up things, they are not beyond repair – because we have our amazing Savior Jesus Christ who has come to repair everything. All we have to do is come.

Maybe, you aren’t uber excited about doing a Bible study right now. I wasn’t either, but the Lord awoke that spiritual desire today when I began my time reading through Titus. So just know, the Lord will meet you. Wherever you are, the Lord will meet you.

Let’s just come and realize our deep need for our Savior Jesus Christ!
Let’s invite Him into our broken (and often messy) lives, and wait to see how the Lord will transform us, our circumstances, and entire lives.

The biggest thing we need, as believers, is to get closer to the Lord Jesus. Whether it is through this study or another one, the ultimate goal has to be just that – to get as close as you can to the Lord.

This weekend, I want for us to begin praying about possible goals. Rather, goal.

What is one goal you can set, to help you get closer to Jesus these next eight weeks?

Because God has wired us differently (personality, interests, etc), that goal is going to look differently for each of us. Now I am setting aside a separate post specifically to talk about goals, but I am not talking about a year long goal. You may have one. You may have five. If you do, I think that is fantastic! My goals never seem to stick, so my one goal I am fixed on – is to sit quietly before the Lord.

Just think about these next eight weeks. What is ONE goal you can set that will draw you nearer to the Lord?

There are a variety of ways to get involved in our Bible study. You can find an eight week journal on Amazon to use for this (or another) study. Also: You can follow my Facebook page. Or even join the women’s small group to dig deeper into this Bible study!

Almost Time! {Press On Toward Faithfulness}

Hello my friends!!

Our study is quickly approaching. Press On Toward Faithfulness is our eight week study. I do hope you will join me, as we sit and study the Word of God. Diligently, we will be studying and learning from the books of Titus and 1-2 Timothy.

About the Study –

While it is New Testament books we are reading, they are only a few chapters each. And each day, we will be taking it slow and ingesting the treasures of our great God bite by bite. I promise you, the daily readings won’t be too long to read and meditate upon. We will be taking our time walking through these precious chapters.

Our goal here isn’t to see how much of the Bible we can read in one sitting. Rather, our ultimate goal is to allow Christ and His Word to take root in our hearts and change us from the inside-out!

In these books, we are able to gain wisdom from Paul as he counsels two spiritual brothers actively involved in ministry. Titus and Timothy gleaned much needed encouragement, as God spoke to them through Paul. They were encouraged, which helped them stay faithful to what the Lord was leading them to do. Many of us need this kind of encouragement.

Gathering Your Tools –

Our study begins January 15th, so it is just a few short days away. Be sure to grab your eight week Scripture Writing journal, which can be used for this study (or almost any study). It is only $6.25 on Amazon.

Next week, I will reveal our Press On Toward Faithfulness schedule – which we will be using to guide us through our day to day study. While it is a daily study, it will allow us to take in the Scripture piece by piece to get as much as we can – out of this sacred time. Each day, we will uncover new (and even once forgotten) truths that can radically change our perspective of God, ourselves, and show us the steps we need to take – as we place our trust in our Lord Jesus.

Also for those interested: We have a Facebook women’s small group ready to meet and dive into this study in a more personal setting. Consider joining us! But don’t forget about our multiple blog posts – as we go through this study! We will be spending lots of time diving into the Word together, whether it is through the blog or our women’s small group (sorry guys!).

Let’s Pray, Friends –

Lord Jesus, prepare our hearts for this sacred time. So many of us need this time more than words can say, and I know I am one of them. Prepare us physically, emotionally, and spiritually for this study. Help us to be planted in Your divine word and hear from You. As we hear directly from You, help us willfully obey – surrendering everything – so You can move in our lives, communities, and ministries. Be glorified, Lord. Amen!

Talk with you soon, my friends.

P.S. Thank you for the support you provide, to keep this ministry going! The website link may be changing, so keep an eye out for that – friends. Even when this happen, fear not! The ministry of this blog will press on. The Lord has been providing mightily for all our necessities. I received word that my laptop was no more, but the Lord provided one for me to use.

December Goals

It is a little late, but “better late than never”.

Do {Daily}

  • Continue to work on choosing allergy free vegetarian dishes.
  • Exercise, while listening to limitations.
  • Keep reading and studying the Word of God (Bible).
  • Welcome silence, to create a prayerful environment.

Learn

This month, my heart’s goal is set on Titus. I need to learn and apply Titus 2:5.

In the book of Titus, we are reminded of God’s greatness and how He wants us to live out our faith in our lives (see 2:3-5).

For this month, I want to lean on the Lord and learn how to serve within the walls of my family’s home. This is done as I keep up on housework (dishes, laundry, picking up, decluttering) – trying to give God my best in this area.

“These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God (Titus 2:4-5, NLT).”

Read

My hope is to keep reading each day. While I have many books to choose from, I am going to limit my goal to a few specific books.

  • In the Middle of the Mess (Sheila Walsh)
  • Loved Baby (Sarah Philpott)
  • Connected (Erin Davis)

Also, I want to keep reading and soaking up the truths from the book of Psalms.

Be

If there was one word for this month, it would be “effective”. I want my life to count. Through eating better, exercising, and trying to stay focused on the Lord by living out His Word, I want to make a difference in my health, family, and life.

Dear friend, what are some of the things you hope to focus on doing or being for the month of December?

In Christ,

Dwelling in His Beauty {{Inspiring Women}}

Hi friends! For the months of May/June, we will be using a reading plan given to us by Sweet to the Soul Ministries. Feel free to stroll through their Facebook page and blog. They even have a journaling kit and Bible study for this month’s plan!

Women of God, we have been given an imperishable beauty – that comes from Christ alone. In this day-and-age, it is easy to be consumed with our outward beauty, but we are far more than just external beauty. God has made us His daughters, and we can become even more beautiful with each day that we follow Jesus Christ.

Our Scripture

Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God (1 Peter 3:4, TLB).

. . . but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious (ESV).

Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in (MSG).

Circumstances Can Make Us Beautiful!

No matter what is going on in our lives, we can cultivate inward beauty. We can become women who are quiet and gentle – without losing our chance to “be strong and courageous” as Joshua 1:9 teaches.

Each of us is given an unique set of circumstances in our lives. Although these things are difficult, they continue to make us more beautiful on the inside. This is part of the pruning process we are given. We learn about this dreaded, but beautifying process in the book of John. In chapter 15, Jesus has a much needed talk with His disciples. Although He was going away, He reminds them of their need to stay connected to Him (which is accomplished with the Holy Spirit).

Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me (John 15:4, AMPC).

As followers of Jesus, girls, we need to stay deeply connected to Jesus. We need to find ourselves clinging to Him – regardless of the circumstances of today.

The difficulties of today, will enable us to experience the fruit of tomorrow. This is the beauty that lasts. Jesus wants to make us even more beautiful.

Our eyes need to be on the prize, which isn’t a stash of newly bought makeup for our faces to hide the real appearance of who we are.

Instead this eternal prize is the beauty of Jesus Christ, powerfully on display – as we live out our lives.

This is the goal worth pursuing. This is the beauty that can still remain when we are old and grey.

As long as we are pursuing Jesus Christ and welcoming His love pursuit of us, we are choosing inner beauty as the priority. Choosing inwardly beauty doesn’t mean never wearing makeup again. It only means, we are choosing the better thing.

How Will You Prepare for this Transition?

This past week, we have had a great deal of emotions related to the election alone. Some happy. Some sad. Some resolving to be content in a discontented situation. A wide array of emotions. Our actions are just as varied. Complaints. Protests. Violence. Self-isolation. Deleting facebook friends, who are in favor of a different candidate than you are.

We and our world are in dire need of intervention. We need to remember our hope that extends beyond any of today’s politicians’ promises for a better tomorrow. It is time to remember the hope, assurance, and peace that only God can give!

I don’t know (nor do I want to) where you stand in relation to the election. I don’t know anyone’s opinions on the election. But I do want us to do something intentional. There are ten weeks before our next president begins his four year term (along with his cabinet of advisers).

Let’s devote ourselves to search the heart of God intentionally, and just give to God our hearts and our country.

When we give ourselves fully to God, that is when He is going to move mountains like never before! I am setting up a reading plan for myself, over these next ten weeks. I am sharing it, in case this is stirring anyone else’s heart to join me in this pursuit.

I want to see God move mountains.

I want to see God perform miracles like never before.

I want to see what my God can do!

… It all begins with prayer and studying His Word!

… Its starts with us turning from sin and turning our lives fully toward God!

I know God is deeply concerned about our nation, too. God sees everything going on, and He is in tears about everything going on too. He cares about what is going on in the nation, because He lovingly and passionately cares for us. He wants us to begin seeking Him and to start inviting Him to be involved in our lives and our nation as well.

The question is, how will we prepare for our next president?

While we could use this as an opportunity to breed discontentment, gossip, and strife, we have another choice too. And, that is to seek after the heart of God. While I cannot promise you that your deepest fears won’t come true, I can promise you that God loves you personally, deeply concerned for you, and wants to work in your life. And, He is not going to leave your side. He is waiting for us, to begin seeking after Him and allowing Him to be our Faithful Companion and Source of Hope.
