Love Based Law – Part 2 {POTF}

In order to have the proper lens to view the Bible and God’s law (see yesterday’s post), we need to remember who God is. He is the loving Father to those who choose to believe and follow His Son Jesus Christ.

But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12-13, CSB).

Allow this truth to soak in your mind. God wants to be your heavenly Father! He wants to guide you on the right path, to help you avoid pitfalls and heartache.

But we know that the law is good, provided one uses it legitimately (1 Timothy 1:8).

Just an earthly father typically sets up rules to protect his children, our heavenly Father is very intent on protecting us and leading His children. Thus, we are given the law.

Our Relationship with God

Furthermore, we had human fathers discipline us, and we respected them. Shouldn’t we submit even more to the Father of spirits and live? (Hebrews 12:9)

In Hebrews 12, we learn that – God wants to protect us and lead us into His loving arms, but it require discipline too. Discipline is hard, but every relationship is best operated with proper boundaries in place. Without boundaries in place, things can get messy and destructive.

God sets up rules, out of His love for His children. From the moment we choose to believe and follow Jesus Christ, we have become a part of God’s family. We are not strangers or His enemies, but given a beautifully intimate relationship. This is the reality for believers of Jesus Christ! We have gone from enemies of God to being His beloved children.

Our great God will fight to protect this relationship, but will we?

Called His Children

This new beautiful relationship, where we are called God’s children – cost greatly. Jesus Christ suffered, died, and rose again to save us. Let’s cherish this relationship and enjoy His boundaries.

This is why we can view the law through this lens of God’s role as our Abba Father. Everything is done out of absolute, amazing, breath taking, love that our great God has for us!

The Lord reminds us of our need to deny ourselves, as we continue to follow Him. He reminds us of the great price He paid for us. He chose us. Despite all of our sin, He still chose us! Are you ready to follow Jesus more readily, seeing Him as your Father?

Remember the beauty of Galatians 2:20 –

I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave himself for me.

The Bible shows us our desperate need for seriously Good News! Our Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior, and He is the One who makes us right with our great God! He sets us in a beautiful place of grace, mercy, and peace (1:2), but He also shows us how to live abundantly!

Running to Jesus,
