Trials Tuesday: Hold Up Under Trials

“Happy is the person who can hold up under the trials of life. At the right time, he’ll know God’s sweet approval and will be crowned with life. As God has promised, the crown awaits all who love Him (James 1:12, VOICE).”

Lately, I am reminded that we are called blessed (or happy) whenever we endure problems in this life. Which is counter-cultural to what we are used to doing. When we face trials, we are not happy. Or, at least, I know I am not happy. But as we read, we learn that it is about God’s Awesome timing. When we are being sustained as we endure trials, God will be crowning us with victory on that Last Day (the coming of Christ).

While our trials are absolutely gruesome, they are not the end of us. The power of Jesus Christ is greater.

The Message states the Scripture a bit differently, which helps us to wrap our minds around it.

“Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life.”

The Truth Trials Teach Me

God is God.

God is good.

My trials, they are not good. But even when they are not, God is still God. God has proven Himself faithful time and time again. And, He will see us through. We are not fighting for nothing, but we are fighting for something great. Something amazing. And, it is worth fighting for.

  • What trials are you facing today?
  • How are you centering your attention to the greatest of God?

When we are tested and tried, Scripture reminds us that God is bigger.

Finding Encouragement in the Word

Rom. 5:3-5

1 Cor. 9:26-27

2 Cor. 12:7-10

… are a few Scriptures that can be instrumental in encouraging us, while we walk this difficult road of being tested and tried. We are not the only ones facing testing and trials. We all face testing and trials in our lives.

In 1 Peter 5:9, we are reminded to stand firm and that other face what we are facing too. It doesn’t matter what category of trial you are fighting through today, you are not alone! God is right there. Stepping up, and moving all over your life. He is working in the big and the small stuff. We just need to step back in our perspective, and remember the vastness of our great God.

Yes, He is allowing this trial for the moment.

But, He going to reward you far better than what you faced. Just keep hanging in there. Keep staying in the Word of God. Keep connected to others believers who are placing their hope in Jesus Christ.

Going Deeper

How are you fixing your eyes on the hope of Jesus Christ (see Romans 5:3-5)?

How have you patiently (or unpatiently) enduring, with your confidence in God (see Psalm 27:13-14) ? Let’s just take a moment and be honest: Trials are hard. But, God is good to give us what we need to endure. We need to grow our faith, as we see it stretched to unimaginable limits during trials.

How are you growing your faith – and – staying in the Word of God, prayer, and fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ?

The reward is present for those who stand firm in their faith. Circumstances, we cannot control. But, we can stay focused on Jesus Christ and choose our responses to the events of our lives. How are we choosing? Each day, each choice, is a new moment. A moment to praise God in the storm. A moment to tell God about your struggle. A moment to text that friend, and say “I am struggling, girl, I really am.”

How are we realizing His power works best in our weakness (see 2 Cor. 12:7-10)?

Read 1 Peter 5:8-10. How is God encouraging you through this piece of His eternal truth?
