Immersed in Service – Part 1

My Goal

In 2016, my goal has been just for one thing – to immerse myself in service. This is not a “stay busy” kind of goal. Rather, my goal is wrapped up in doing what is eternally profitable. When we choose to focus on our love relationship with God through Jesus Christ and serve in His Kingdom, we have a better return for our efforts. When we serve God, our efforts are long-lasting.

When we give ourselves to God, He does things we could only dream of. In fact, God’s Word teaches us that He can do things that we could ever dream of.

This is the significance of serving God and others within God’s Kingdom. I want to focus on serving and teaching others, because it is for the sake of God’s Kingdom.

In the Kingdom of God, we all serve.
Despite our many different gifting areas, God is wanting to use us as His instruments.

The Goal Versus Distractions

More than anything, I want to immerse myself in a love relationship with the Holy One of Israel, knowing Him more intimately than ever before, and plant myself in serving one another in love.

It sounds great on paper. Even, amazing. Yet, I find myself distracted. Like most single Christ-followers, I find myself distracted. Even though, as a single woman, I can be distracted, I am reminded of the goal: to be Kingdom-minded.

God’s Plan

Regardless of our life circumstances, God wants to use up to build up His Kingdom.

He wants to use the man who has lost his wife to cancer.

He wants to use the mom who feels like she has little to offer.

He wants to use the chronically ill who have no choice, but to take life as it comes.

He wants to use that single woman who is wondering if Mr. Right will ever show up, but continues to trust her Maker most days of the week.

God has a plan and purpose for each of us. God is equipping us all. God wants to use each of life’s circumstance to help others.

God can use this season of my life, if I will just allow Him to. Likewise, He can use the season of life in which you find yourself too. It may not be the most glamorous of living, but God can use it nonetheless. We serve a God of hope. He wants to offer us His comfort right here, right now. I don’t know what you are facing today, but He extends to you His hope. This hope is not built upon anything that can fade away with time. The hope God offers is eternal, and found through a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ.

He Leads

The Scriptures have so much to say about serving, singleness, and just about everything else you ever wanted to know. There is no greater comfort than knowing – God is the place where we can run.

When we don’t know God’s activity (where He is working) or His Will (what He will do), we can trust God’s heart, because through the Bible, His Word, we can know what God is truly like. We can know His heart. And then, we can know that God will indefinitely lead us on. If we will simply begin seeking His face, He will surely lead us on.

Even when we do not know what God is doing, or how He will work out the circumstances in our lives, we can trust God’s heart. Through the Bible, God’s precious Word, He shares all of Himself with us!

Matthew 6:33 reminds us of this sacred truth.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.”

IF we can zoom into God, our love relationship with Him through Jesus Christ, and His Kingdom, God can do the most amazing things!

How are you choosing to give yourself in service, today? What difficulties do you face, as you fixate your eyes on your love relationship with God through Jesus Christ?

  1. Great thoughts. I have the same urging, although I work at home, homeschool and have three kids I’m raising! I think it helps me when I remember that it doesn’t have to be a “big thing” to serve someone. I can do something as simple as picking up trash at the park or a quick phone call to a friend. It’s the little things that can add up.

  2. Stacey — I love to serve and to give. I believe it is so important to encourage and lift those around us. I find much satisfaction serving my community and family. I also try to remember daily to ask God how He wants me to serve and who he wants me to serve!
