The Big Pig Stampede (A Tyndale Review)

The Big Pig Stampede
In “The Big Pig Stampede,” Hartman retells the Word of God to the next generation in an inventive way. Through Gideon (or “Goat Boy” as he is often referred to), you get to journey alongside him and his crew (his family, plus his friend’s family) and get a first-hand insight into the Scriptures. To envision seeing Jesus heal the “dead girl.” or the aftermath of James and John leaving their father with this big load of fish. We get to see Jesus.

We get to experience the Scriptures, through this book using Gideon and those he journeys alongside – as they travel following Jesus to support themselves financially. In the process, God is working in their hearts. Leaving Gideon with one question – “Is Jesus the Messiah?”

In the book, we get to be reminded of Jesus

  • as our healer
  • as the one who calms storms.
  • as the one with the power to resurrect the dead.

And, so much more…

My Thoughts

There are a few words used to describe my experience with this book.

Captivating.

Personal.

Truthful.

Captivating

This book offers the retelling of Jesus in the most captivating way. Though this captivating story telling, you can create a journey to teach your children (or perhaps yourself) about the truths we find in God’s Word.

Personal

Often times, we can become disengaged the remembrance of what God has done. This book places us in the center of all the excitement. What will we do with the experience of knowing Jesus heals? What will do we with experiencing His calming effect on the storms? Just as He healed many and calmed storms (among other miracles), He wants to do the same in our own lives, as we follow Him.

 Truthful

I absolutely loved this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants an easy-to-understand book to help your children learn much more about Jesus and to learn who He is. Taken straight from the Scriptures, we get a closer look at what we might have saw if we were there after James and John left their father. What might we have seen or heard, as Jesus healed the paralytic?

Through this book, we get a closer look into the Scriptures that fill our hearts with hope. We get to pass those onto our children, to help them in their walk toward Jesus and falling in love with Jesus – our Savior!
