For the month of October, I am joining many bloggers in a challenge to write every single day for 31 days. I learned about this challenge through another challenge I participate in most weeks. The “Five Minute Friday” challenge is going to expand to last the whole month! Each entry, will be five minutes unedited of writing on a particular theme – found on Kate’s blog.Today’s theme is “family.”
I seem to be learning a great deal about family these days. For a long time, I dreamed of a close-knitted group to confide in, share with, and intercede on my behalf. I found them. God has used a small group, outside of my home church, to foster this sense of what a family should look like – what a family should act like.
How have you defined this special word “family”? And who is granted access into this unique category of relationships in your life?
God Places Us in Families
I am reminded of the truth that God has placed the lonely in families. God has given the barren children. God has placed the isolated and outcasts into families. Perhaps, your earthly family isn’t there for you. Keep seeking people within the household of God – for your spiritual family. God gives us those people to fill this void within our lives. We were made for relationships. We were made to have emotional support. But, not just emotional support.
I know it has been incredibly hard to find support, in times of physical ailments, but God is giving me support. It just took a while to find these relationships. My expectations are different than things turned out, but it’s okay. I have support. I have family. It just might not be the family I want.
When we consider those who are granted entrance into our family, we need to think about those expectations.
If we set our expectations too high, we miss so much. Take time to notice the blessings God has given you called “family”. Pray about those God might have placed in your life for a family, but those relationships aren’t quite there yet!
