Review: Spiritual Parenting in the First Five Years by Callie Grant (Graham Blanchard)

spiritual parentingSpiritual Parenting in the First Five Years is the debut book of Callie Grant, who is founder of Graham Blanchard Publishers, Inc. In 2011, Grant founded Graham Blanchard with the sole purpose of creating children’s books to teach them about God. These books, used as tools, would lay down a foundation to teach truths about God as these young ones develop a life-saving faith in Jesus Christ.

The Call to Christian Discipleship

There is a great call to move toward Christian discipleship. When it comes to our children, there shouldn’t be an arrival age for when we begin to “officially” disciple our children (see Matthew 28:18-20) Our children must become those we pour into, spiritually speaking, and allow God to mold our children into who they are meant to be.

“The job of fostering a child’s faith in God takes more forethought, insight—and practice—than any other aspect of parenting (Grant, p. 11).”

My Thoughts…

I was thrilled when I received an email inviting me to receive a copy of Callie’s book in exchange for a review. It has met all of my expectations, except for one The size of the book. I consider it more as a booklet, so it won’t have the depth of a 100+ page book. While it may not be composed of more than 35 pages, the content is valuable. In Spiritual Parenting in the First Five Years, Callie covers five principles to help parents as they prepare to meet not only their children’s physical needs – but to meet their spiritual needs as well.

As Callie points out, our children are born – ready to believe in God. It is our job to teach them, to live out our faith in Christ among them, and share His Word and love with them. In the early years, she points out, we need to be intentional. We don’t walk this road along, but God goes before us. It is only by His power, that we can meet our children’s needs. Just as God uses us in the lives of the children He has entrusted to us, He will also use the entrusted children to speak tenderly to us as well. We walk alongside our children, and learn with them.

Overall…

I would recommend it to others, with the acknowledge that it is a brief e-book. It’s a good starting place to begin researching how to enter parenting with a focus in discipleship.
