Being chronically ill, I am constantly reminded of what I am not:

  1. I am not able to do very many things.
  2.  I get easily tired.
  3. Even too physically weak to move.
  4. Difficulty standing.
  5. Can’t think straight at times.
  6. Get overloaded easily.
  7. Get discouraged.
  8. I get my hopes up that someday I will discover what actually is all wrong with me—only to be discouraged when tests show “I am fine”.
  9. Feel inadequate.

I forget all I am in–in Christ!

  1. I am accepted.
  2. I am significant.
  3. I am secure! (Nobody can snatch me from His hand!!)
  4. I am special.
  5. I am chosen.
  6. I am His beloved!
  7. I am called a Child of the Most High God! <3
  8. I am made new. (2 Cor 5:17)
  9. I am fearfully and wonderfully made! (Psalm 139)

This world reminds us of what we are not by their standards. Instead of listening to them, we need to be listening to Him: Who does God say I am? What in my identity in Him that does not waver no matter what my physical life on earth is like?

Below is taken from Encouraging Bible Quotes

  1. Yes what God says about us and who we are is a lot more then what the world always tells us we are not. I agree with you in I need to start listening to what He says about me, not what others say in this world.

    1. I can’t speak for you, but I know for me– part of it is retraining my mind. I have been brainwashed, by lies others have said by me. Even by others’ actions, by choosing to just stare fiercely at me while I open a patio door. It leaves an impression and an intimidation. It sends a message. It’s learning to keep stirring the truth, and letting go of the lies we may be tempted to believe. Recognizing the lies, is a big part of the battle.

      1. We are so much alike girl. I too need to retrain my mind. I have since a child let what others have said or done to me decide who I am and how I feel about myself. So much garbage I need to get out of my mind and replace with what God says, so much retraining.

  2. I know the feeling. A lot of garbage has be internalized and affects the way I see myself, and how I act out my full identity. My identity completely effects everything in. my. life… Retraining brings us to a beautiful place of being closer to Him, more confidence in Him, more knowing who we really are without doubt, more joy, more peace, more living out our God-given callings! <3 More everything…It is a matter of moving toward it..

  3. I, too, have a chronic illness (schizophrenia), but I wouldn’t trade it for a different life challenge, because by overcoming it, my suffering has brought me closer to God. God has blessed me in so many ways because I trust in Him and not myself. I would like to invite you to visit my blog MaryRefugeOfHolyLove. Especially in my personal writings, I reflect on how I have “gracefully overcome”, too. God bless!
