Discipleship Journal Reading Plan: Day 25

Matt 10:1-20; Acts 15:1-21; Psalm 23; Genesis 50

Matthew: The disciples are sent out to preach the Good News and minister to others. They were instructed by Jesus to remember to be wise and yet innocent in what they do (letting His shine), spending their time and energy with those who want to hear about the Lord and His message—the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Lord would be working through them! When they faced adversity, He would be the One speaking through them, so they should not worry.
Memorable Verses: Mt 10:19-20
Mission of the Disciples: Mt 10:6-8
Servitude: Mt 10:8-10
Shake Off the Dust: Mt 10:14-15

Psalm: God continues to pour out His compassion onto us as we come to Him, broken, repenting, and realizing our need for Him. Today’s time in the 23rd Psalm is raising a new question.  Am I submitting to Jesus, as my shepherd, continually trusting God as His will is done in my life? Often I become one who takes things back that I had originally (or at one time) trusted to my Creator and Savior. It’s time to retrust those things to the Lord.

Acts: There is a big debate going on in this passage, whether or not the Gentiles should follow the law of Moses and circumcision. It is firmly stated that we all are saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus—Simply, by trusting in Jesus. Jesus paid it all. Let us spur one another on to honor Him with all of our lives.
Faith of the Gentiles: Acts 15:8-9
Yoke: Acts 15:10
OT: Amos 9:11-12
James’ Proposal: Acts 15:19-21

Genesis: There is quite a company involved in burying Jacob—the Pharaoh’s servants and so many more. Jacob may have been blessed and successful, but the same is true of Joseph. Many knew and loved Joseph. Still after the death of Jacob, Joseph’s brothers had the fear tugging on their hearts that Joseph would finally pay them back for all they did for him. Instead of revenge, he comforts and speaks kindly to them. That’s the power of God: to love instead of pursuing revenge.
Memorable Verses: Genesis 50:19-21
Joseph’s Brothers’ Concern: Genesis 50:15-17
The Brothers’ Response: Genesis 50:18
