Discipleship Journal Reading Plan: Day 14

Matt. 6:1-15; Acts 8:26-40; Psalm 14; Genesis 32-33

Matthew: It is better to do  in secret: pray in your room with the door closed (6:6), give secretly (6:2-4), show grace (6:14-15), etc. Facebook and social media can easily collide with this passage. How often do we post something? And, doing so without checking our motives? In this passage, many did things to be seen by others (giving, praying). We must really check our motives. When we have the wrong motives, we get puffed up with pride, selfish, and make it about us. It is not about us—it is about Him and only Him! May we repent, and bring this completely to God—allowing Him to change us from the inside out.
Memorable Verses: 6:1,8

Acts: Philip was obedient to God. Scripture shows that he responded immediately to what God prompted him to do. It was about furthering God’s Kingdom, not fears etc. What are you afraid of? Give it to Him. Don’t delay!
Philip’s Response
: 8:29-30
Prophesy: Isaiah 53:7-8

Psalm: Seeking God is the most significant thing we could ever do! The wicked say ‘There is no god’ and they frustrate the plans of the poor. God is a refuge—our place of shelter. The Lord restores His people. The wicked seek to harm God’s people, but God acts on their behalf! Let us call upon the name of the Lord—for He is our refuge and strength!
See Psalm 14:1, 4.

Genesis: Jacob is clouded by his own fears, pride, stubbornness. It is evident as he prepares to meet with Esau, and even wrestles with God! Even as he met Esau, Esau drew near to him—and Jacob drew away—camping elsewhere.
Jacob’s Response to seeing Esau again: 7-8, 20b-21
Wrestle with God: 31:22-30
Memorable Verses: 31:28
