Sausage Biscuits

I have been wanting a sausage biscuit for a while. I decided to try out this recipe by Bisquick for biscuits. It turned out really well with the exception of pieces falling as I tried to eat a Sausage Biscuit. Attributing that to using egg replacer. Still, it worked well. Next time I try to make it, I hope to discover a way to make less of it- just a matter of learning how to alter the recipe. If I could find a way to only make a small fraction, I’d have it more often. There is also the possibility of freezing some of the leftover biscuits. Either method would work the best for me, so it isn’t lurking around to be a temptation or end up in the trash. My nephew just downed 3 of them, so it’s something that the whole family can enjoy if they so choose to. Even though it was a little crumbly, it was so good!

Here’s the recipe by Bisquick

Before beginning the biscuits, I started with the sausage. Sliced and began to cook them in a skillet. One pack of Farmer John’s Sausage made 8 patties. While the last 4 were cooking, I began to make the biscuits.

One reason my biscuits look different from Bisquick’s is: I chose a different method for forming them. Nothing fancy. I rolled each biscuit into a large ball, flattened it, and placed it on a cookie sheet.

Biscuit Ingredients-

2 cups of Gluten Free Bisquick
1/3 cup of shortening
3 Eggs (or replacer)
2/3 cup of milk (I used Rice Milk)

  • “Heat oven to 400°F. In large bowl, place Bisquick mix. Cut in shortening with fork until particles are size of small peas. Stir in milk and eggs until soft dough forms.” (Bisquick’s instructions that were followed)
  • Grab an amount of dough, begin rolling it into a ball. Flatten the ball. If it is too big (if using sausage patty), remove some, roll again, and flatten. Do this until they are the size you want them to be.
  • My biscuits turned out slightly burned (or more brown than desired). They cooked from anywhere from 15-20 minutes. I lowered the oven from 400-350/375 to prevent it from burning.
  • Once cooked, I allowed them to cool for a few minutes. Then, I cut the biscuit in half and placed a sausage patty in the middle. Viola- gluten, dairy, egg free sausage biscuit.

It was a really easy breakfast to make. GF Bisquick is pretty cheap if you use Amazon’s subscribe and save like I do. I have quite a few boxes of the Bisquick, ready to be used…And, easy is good! I hope the biscuits freeze well, because that is exactly where the rest are going. The recipe is designed to make 10 biscuits. Mine made 11 since they were made smaller, for sausage biscuits. Ideally if you plan to eat the entire batch with your families’ help. Make sure you have enough sausage. I only had enough sausage for 3/4 of the biscuits. Not a big deal for us, but if you plan to eat all of it–make sure you have enough sausage.
